Mario Antonius Birowo is a faculty member in the Department of Communication Sciences at Universitas Atma Jaya Yogyakarta, Indonesia, with extensive expertise in disaster communication. His work focuses on community-oriented approaches, exploring how community media, participatory communication, and disaster memory can strengthen disaster risk mitigation and build resilient communities. He brings a strong track record of academic research, publications, and hands-on initiatives in disaster communication. Mario Antonius Birowo has contributed to major collaborative efforts such as the Emergency Radio Consortium for Resilient Communities (RADAR Tangguh), working alongside regional and international partners to support disaster risk reduction and policy development, including collaboration with Indonesia’s National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB). During the COVID-19 pandemic, he also served as COVID-19 Response Coordinator at his university and contributed as an independent consultant to research on the pandemic in Indonesia.
